Suppose you have two networks in the same location that are not physically connected. To use resources on both networks from one computer, you can use RS-232 cables and COM ports to create null modems. You connect an RS-232 cable from a COM port to a COM port on each remote access server. To the servers, the COM ports then appear to be modems. You can use server remote access, a part of the integrated Routing and Remote Access service, to create network access.
For information about creating a direct connection by using serial access, see To make a direct network connection.
